[Pre-E3 2006] Begin the Pro Evolution
Konami's Winning Eleven series finally starts rocking the international name.
Published: May 9, 2006
We already knew it was coming, but that doesn't make the news that an all-new entry into the Winning Eleven series any less awesome. In fact, one could argue that it's more awesome now that the game is sporting the Pro Evolution Soccer name (albeit still with the WE moniker preceeding it).
See, it's only called Winning Eleven here in the states, and it's led to some funky naming conventions as WE lags behind Pro Evo in the numbers. Now, with the mouthful of a name in Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 the two titles can finally start merging and we'll have a nice, happy unified name in no time.
Though the game will be making the hop to next-gen consoles, the PS3 won't see it (at least for the time being), though both of the other active Sony platforms will be gifted with the update. Among the improvements this time around are International Challenge, which lets you play across four continents as you take over the world, while Random Selection Match gives you the ability to build a team with random players from a geographic region or league. These modes join the more familiar Master League Mode, which now boasts more options, though we still don't know all the specifics.
More club teams, full licenses from international teams like Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Argentina will also be included before the game's launch at the start of next year. As more info trickles in, we'll make sure you've got it.
