Sega Sequels Hit PS2

You knew it was coming: Virtua Fighter 4 is headed to the PS2, and did someone ask for more Ulala?

Sega may not have had the best of luck as a hardware manufacturer as of late, but when it comes to software, one thing is blatantly obvious: they know their stuff. The beauty of having the company move from 1st party rival to 3rd party comrade for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo is that gamers don't have to stick to one system to enjoy some great games. If you're only able to afford, say, a PS2, you'll still be getting a slew of great titles, some of them brand-new sequels.

[Virtua Fighter 4]
The biggest of those sequels is probably Yu Suzuki's latest uberbrawler, VF4. The arcade version blew people away with everything from interactive, destructable evironments to tiny details like snow deforming as fighters duked it out. In a release that was issued in the thick of the Tokyo Game Show, Sega promises "quality that stands up to the arcade version," and initial reports are that the game looks every bit as good as the stunning Naomi 2-powered coin-op. "The goal is for both those who have played the arcade edition of 'Virtua Fighter 4' and for those who will play this title on PS2 for the first time to feel satisfied."

The PS2 version will go beyond just a straight arcade port, bringing over all the fighters and environments, but adding in a couple new modes. For those that need to warm up before jumping right in, a Training Mode will be added to help improve skills. Also added is a console-exclusive A.I. Mode to help practice sparring techniques.

The arcade version of VF4 had a grade system and corresponding Character Access Cards that allowed you to record stats on a card, then compare them and in some cases actually get rewards for your performance. The PS2 version will retain this, though those slick little cards you can plug into the coin-op cabinet have been swapped out for the more suitable PS2 memory card.

[Space Channel 5 Part 2]
While the information released from Tokyo was chock full o' Engrish goodness, we were able to glean a few details. Yes, SC5 is coming to PS2 in Spring 2002, and yes, it is an all-new game. The port of the original is still under way, and will be released alongside the sequel so fans of the new game can check out where it all started.

Part 2's details are still sketchy, but we do know that it promises more of the usual synched up dancing and fighting, but this time, it sounds like we might actually get a chance to hear some singing along with those new tunes. The sequel will still feature characters from the first game, as well as some new entries and a villain known only as "shadow" to harrass our curvy heroine.
