Well.. unless you've been stuck in a rabbit hole for the past few weeks, you probably know by now that Sega has hit the roof with news in the past few days. Besides ditching hardware support for their Dreamcast console, it seems that several games will be making their way over to the PlayStation2 and other consoles.

One of these titles just happens to be Sega's very own flagship title; Virtua Fighter 4. Yes folks.. you've heard right. Virtua Fighter 4 is heading over to the PlayStation2; the very system that rivaled Sega in every possible way. What's more interesting about this arrangement, is that for the record, VF4 will be an EXCLUSIVE PlayStation2 title.

No, your ears do not deceive you. And no, it is not April 1st, 2001. Sega will actually be bringing over their fourth-installment of the legendary fighting series directly to Sony's next generation console. In all the recent chaos and news flying across the airwaves, even more confusion has begun to stir up about this game.

Other sites began to stipulate that Virtua Fighter 4 would not be an exclusive title at all; that Sega still hasn't decided as to whether the game would be arriving on other platforms. Leave it to IGN to supply us with all the details. Today, PS2.IGN.COM gave us some more clarification into this situation..

They recently spoke with Heather Hawkins; representative for Sega Of America. This is what she had to say:

[blockquote]"All we know is that it exists. We don't have too many details at this point, it's pretty early. But yes, Virtua Fighter 4 is being developed for PlayStation 2, and currently not for any other systems. Right now it's a PlayStation 2 exclusive. That's the only system it's on because that's the system it was created for.

"Virtua Fighter 4 is coming to PlayStation 2 exclusively...but that could change."[/blockquote]So it seems that, for now at least, the long awaited VF4 may arrive exclusively onto the PlayStation2 platform; every Dreamcast owners mortal enemy. But at the same time, there is also further confusion as to whether TWO Virtua Fighter games may be in the works.

Insiders for Microsoft have laid claim that the XBox would also be receiving it's own edition of Virtua Fighter 4. However, they seem to call it Virtua Fighter X or VFX. VFX was the original proposed name for the fighting game. Two days ago, Sega's AM2 division made the official change on their page stipulating the supposed name change from Virtua Fighter X to Virtua Fighter 4.

But Heather Hawkins had this to say about the subject:

[blockquote]"VFX is an arcade game based on Naomi 2 board architecture, and it's a different game. They are two different titles, two separate titles."[/blockquote]If you head over to the official Virtua Fighter 4 website, it will clearly indicate that Virtua Fighter 4 utilizes the NAOMI technology, and that Virtua Fighter X is in fact Virtua Fighter 4. Or is it? Confused yet? So are we. For now, all we know is that Virtua Fighter 4 is most definitely arriving onto the PlayStation2 platform by 2002.

We will have further news on this as it becomes available. In the meantime, feel free to check out our new Preview on this title.
