It seems that after a series of blockbusters and near flops within the Twisted Metal series for the PlayStation, a fifth game will now be planned out for the PlayStation2. The new title; Twisted Metal: Black is expected to start off with a new fresh approach when compared to the previous incarnations.

Incognito Studios, made up of members who helped develop Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 2, will develop this new game. Unlike the previous titles, this game is expected to have a much more serious and darker environment, with a new cast of characters along with brand new features.

The game will feature eight single-player levels along with ten deathmatch levels. Fourteen vehicles will now compete, with new emphasis placed on the specific drivers of these vehicles including Sweet Tooth. Sweet Tooth, who has played the lead role in the previous games will now be able to transform into a fully functional robot.

Besides just the cars themselves, the environments will sport new additions. Factors such as wind, pedestrians, and other interactive objects will allow for distinctively realistic and cluttered levels. Instead of the traditional crash-and-bash action that we have seen in the other instalments, Twisted Metal: Black will take on more of a 'fighting game' form.

Elements such as clouds, rain and lighting appeared to produce a very realistic and dramatic effect within the game's environment. The game will be able to support up to four players at once, and could be ready as early as the middle of 2001.
