Activision's upcoming True Crime sequel is taking a grittier, more serious tone than the first game, and moves from LA to the various boroughs of New York. We hear there are less dragons and stuff below NYC's streets.

Replicating the look and feel of the city -- and more importantly the cops that struggle to watch over it -- was something developer Luxoflux needed a little first-hand info on.

They went to NYPD Blue Executive Producer and consultant (not to mention one-time NYPD homicide detective), for the poop on what makes the city that never sleeps tick, and used that info to make the new game's lead, Marcus Reed, as close to the real thing as possible while still keeping things fun.

The interview, conducted by Activision PR agency Step 3's Jon Lenaway, is rather interesting, and sheds a little light into the process that went into recreating some of the more authentic cop bits of the game.
