Lara's VIP Treatment

The official Tomb Raider: Legend web site goes live with VIP-only access.

One of the cool things about working in the games industry is going to private events that make us all feel like we're special. No, we're fairly sure those really nice PR girls aren't being nice because of our boyish good looks (well, not all of 'em), but it's nice to pretend, and the illusion is certainly appreciated.

This is how you'll have to take all the info that's offered on the spakin' new Tomb Raider web site. No, Eidos didn't HAVE to rope things off digitally and make you sign up to gain access to the materials inside, but it's all about the illusion of VIP access (and it makes for an easy way to build an opt-in list for easy advertising too).

Once you do sign up, you'll be privy to screen shots, and, um, 3D screen shots. The latter is cooler than you'd think, and both show off the improvements to the character model and environments that new developer Crystal Dynamics and original Lara designer Toby Gard have been working on since Eidos kicked former series development mainstays Core Design to the curb after the whole Angel of Darkness fiasco.

For the rest of the content, you'll have to wait until the summer, but then it's classic Eidos marketing to spoon feed us all updates until the game is finally released… well, when it's good and done. Rest assured, though, we haven't been excited about this series this much since the second game, and in the hands of Crystal D, it could actually turn out good. We'll be all over it like stink on poo come E3 in a little over a month. Keep your eyes peeled.
