Ubisoft Holiday Lineup Exposed

Holy crap, this is a lot of games.

Though we're not technically into the Holiday shopping season yet -- we're not even into the Fall quarter, actually -- the ramp-up of press events and publisher announcements has already begun. The 4th calendar quarter is generally where all the big releases hit en masse, and Ubisoft has decided to jump the gun a little and just let us all know what we're in store for over the next few months.

“Ubisoft has the best portfolio of its history for this holiday season, with a strong mix of new and proven brands,” grins Yves Guillemot, president and CEO of Ubisoft. “We expect to confirm our leading edge on the next-gen consoles with the release of eight games for the Wii, three for the Xbox 360, four on the PSP system and two on the PlayStation 3 system.”

Curiously, there's no mention of PlayStation 2 luv anywhere in that quote, and even more surprising, it would appear that Rayman Raving Rabbids is a Nintendo-only prospect for the time being. At least for next-gen consoles, however, this list can be taken as a confirmation of both what has made the PlayStation 3 launch window, and what's slipped to 2007 (if only just to March), so grab a seat and behold... the list:

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent (spy action)

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas (squad-based tactical shooter for PlayStation 3 and PSP

Brothers In Arms: D-Day (World War II squad-based action)

Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII (flight combat)

Prince of Persia: Rival Swords (action-adventure)

Open Season (kids action-adventure for PlayStation 2 and
PSP)

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance (action-adventure)

If this list seems to conflict a little with Ubisoft's earlier quote (we're counting quite a few less PSP and PS3 titles and a few more PS2 ones), it's probably because we just went with the lists they provided. If a game didn't explicitly mention one of the other consoles, we didn't include it. This could of course mean stuff like Rayman is indeed headed to Sony systems, but Ubisoft hasn't made a big fuss about it, so neither will we.

Still, even with the slimmed down list, that's a decent number of offerings to hit within the next few months from a single publisher, and gives you an idea of how insane the Holiday season really is for games. Expect plenty more info in the coming weeks.
