Rainbow Six to Return in Spring 2005
A new single-player story and multiplayer-enhancements on the way with new installment.
Published: December 3, 2004
Ubisoft has announced that a currently unnamed new installment in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six franchise is in development. Once again, Rainbow Six, the world's go-to counter-terrorist unit, is back in action to face a bioterrorist threat, but when the terrorist organization captures one of their own, it becomes personal.
Rainbow Six 4 (as we're tentatively calling it) promises to feature a darker storyline, groundbreaking new equipment, a team-based, objective-driven Rivalry Mode exclusive to the PS2 version, seeing as it's set in the near future, and offers players the roles of two members of the team: leader Ding Chavez and sniper Dieter Weber. With another involving single-player experience intact, the new Rainbow Six title will also bring new multiplayer features to the table.
"The next installment in the Rainbow Six franchise will take the best and make it better - the Rainbow Six franchise enjoyed an unprecedented year run as a top online title, and the next episode will deliver an even bigger multiplayer punch, with the addition of two revolutionary modes that take the game in a completely new direction," promises Tony Kee, vice president of marketing for Ubisoft. "This time its personal as Team Rainbow becomes the target. They must react in unprecedented ways to a direct threat - Tom Clancy's gut-wrenching tension, pulse-pounding action, close-quarter battle and hallmark realism are about to get a whole lot darker."
This newest Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is currently gunning for a spring 2005 release. We'll keep you updated as more develops on the title, but for now, be sure to check out the new screenshots and trailer over in the media section.
