E3 2004: TimeSplitters Future Perfect Hands-On Impressions

Totting weapons through a century and a half in Free Radical's latest TimeSplitters rendition.

While Electronic Arts may be taking over the role of publisher for Free Radical Design's third installment in its praised FPS series, TimeSplitters Future Perfect, that certainly doesn't ensure the game is going to have any unwelcome, drastic changes to it. This we found out for ourselves after giving Future Perfect a little test run at E3 2004, though what we played was only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what game will be bringing to the table.

In the demo we played through, the main character, Cortez, and who looked to be Harry Tipper from the original TimeSplitters were onboard a train where a group of enemies were already up to no good. In comparison to previous installments, the game felt extremely familiar and comfortable, with the same, and by now intuitive, control scheme and playability as we've grown accustomed to. After gunning down hoards of enemies alongside Tipper (or so we hypothesize), out of nowhere emerged a monstrous the chopper that began firing in our direction, and of course, demanded retribution.

Although our time with TimeSplitters Future Perfect was rather short, we can surely get your hopes up with following features that have been promised by EA to be in the final version of the game:
