Godfather Movies, Meet Godfather The Game

Buy the movies, get exclusive making-of content. Buy the game, get a discount on the movies. Nice, eh?

[s]The Godfather trilogy[/s] The first two Godfather movies are and will always be one of the greatest pieces of cinematic achievement in film history, they're just that good, and it's no wonder the license was picked up by EA, though somehow we don't think Mario Puzo had video games in mind when he started writing the novels.

Still, here we are, just a few weeks away from the final release of the game, and the cross-promotion machine is starting to spin up. EA and Paramount pictures, wisely are releasing the game and a new DVD collection on the same day. The Godfather Collection contains the classic trilogy, plus a bonus disc with making-of featurettes with the Visual Effects Animator and Director, extended gameplay trailers and the very same CG trailer that was only shown at E3 last May in EA's insanely cool 360° hi-def screen used to pimp their Xbox 360 lineup.

The whole shebang goes for $76.99 unless you happen to find some kind of online coupon for a discount -- or, you could shell out another $40 (yes, EA dropped the price of both Black and The Godfather to $39.95, how nice of them), and it'll come with a $10 off coupon for the DVD box set.

Personally, we're rather keen on the deal, but then we like the idea of wasting a full afternoon watching Brando, Pacino and Jimmy Caan and Robert Duvall get all familial and killy and use awesome lines like:

"My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator."
"Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don't have men killed."
"Oh. Who's being naive, Kay?"

Man, where's that spare $80 we left in the couch cushions?
