Y'know, we've already gushed at length about how much Namco loves them some drift racing. We even played way, way too much of The Fast and the Furious for the preview just because we dug the fact that both highway battles and drift races were combined into a single game -- a game that isn't being developed by Genki (at least not anymore).

But just because the project wasn't helmed by the reigning kings of highway battle games and was instead developed by the guys that made Big Mutha Truckers shouldn't scare you off. We'll happily admit it's a rather decent racer, though exactly how decent is something we'll reserve for the review. In the mean time, though, you can learn a little more about what Namco thinks (hint: they think it's awesome).

“The almost endless customization, the revolutionary drift model and the Japanese Tuner, Classic Muscle and Concept cars featured in The Fast and the Furious video game make this the most authentic drift racing experience yet,” claims Makoto Iwai, Senior Vice President of Development at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. “The exclusive promotion with NASA is an additional element that allows consumers to truly enter the world of drift racing with a real-life experience.”

Though the game no longer sports the Tokyo Drift part of the title anymore it is based very loosely on the same world that was featured in the movie, and concentrates on the epic, eternal struggle of Detroit muscle versus Japanese tuning. And they've certainly embraced the community, going so far as to give everyone who buys a copy of the game a $50 off coupon for any Nation Auto Sport Association events in the country.

You'll have to wait a few days for our official word on what we thought of the finished product, but should that prove too long a wait, you can head into stores as early as tomorrow and pick up a copy for yourself.
