Golden Drifters
The Fast and the Furious is officially finished. Plus, soundtrack details and new screens!
Published: September 19, 2006
If we were more clever folk around here, we would probably string together some incredibly witty little joke about The Fast and the Furious going gold and getting shipped off for mass production. Probably something involving the final corner and a race to the finish line. But we're not clever, nor are we good at poking fun at our inability to write witty intros. But we are pros at filling useless space with those intros!
But yes, the matter at hand. It seems the very same game we previewed just a couple weeks back has finally gotten the go-ahead for launch. We already went insanely in depth with the game, busting out a stupidly long preview, but this news pleases us indeed, for we also hold in our hands the very same code that is being pressed onto retail discs. Drifting through the mountains of Tokyo isn't far off now at all, and neither is our full review. Still, it doesn't mean we can't continue to hook it up news-wise.
Like, say, for instance the soundtrack for the game, something we didn't get a chance to talk about in the preview, and a little news blurb that somehow slipped through the cracks. So, in addition to an enthusiastic quote about the game being finished, a handful of new screens and another quote about the tunes, here's a list of said tunes themselves. Info overload!
“In creating the most authentic drift racing video game, we carefully selected music that would compliment the culture and origin of this sport and lifestyle,” explains John Whitmore, Director of Internal & External Development at Namco Bandai Games America Inc. “With true-to-life drift racing elements, pro drift racers and licensed manufacturers and cars, The Fast and the Furious video game immerses players into the unbelievable, ultra realistic underground of drift racing. The addition of J-Pop and Hip Hop music tracks from these popular artists is the icing on top.”
“We are extremely excited to bring this game to the PlayStation 2,” added Makoto Iwai, Senior VP of the Development Group at Namco Bandai. “The exotic locale and the endless customizable options combined with the addictive drift mechanics make this a must-have racing game this fall.”
Ready for the full soundtrack listing (complete with legalese)? How about samples of the punk, j-pop, rock, and hip-hop tunes in the game? Well then read on, skippy!
