Tekken 5 Finds a Launch Date

New details on included modes too!

Namco finally settled on a release date for the fifth entry in the Tekken franchise, kicking it out to stores next Friday, February 25th. A constant source of "woah, check that out" visuals that have been among the best on both the original PlayStation and the PS2, the Tekken games haven't made many strides in progression of actual gameplay, but that hasn't stopped gamers from gobbling up each release.

Tekken 5 continues the trend by upping the visual quality even further, reaching something that could easily be confused with an Xbox game (and, at least in stills, bears more than a passing resemblance to Dead of Alive), but retains the simple side-stepping and two-punch, two-kick attack layout.

Aside from the overhauled visuals, a slew of unlockable goodies will also be included, including the ability to play arcade-perfect versions of Tekken 1-3 (the first showing of all three on the PS2), playable versions of Bruce Irvin (from Tekken Tag Tournament, Ganryu and Kuma/Panda (from Tekken), and Mokujin (from Tekken 3). Jin Kazama will also get his own mode that apparently plays more like an action platformer with double-jumps and environmental interaction.

As much as we pretend we don't like it, we're going to be all over Tekken 5 the second it comes out, and we'll happily relay the results of our review in a few days.
