The Man of StEAl Returns
See what we did there? The EA is in caps and “steel” is misspelled cause EA’s making the game an—awww screw it.

Okay, so EA’s track record with licensed games in recent times has been spotty to say the least. Marvel Nemesis? Crap. Catwoman? Craaaaaaap. Batman Begins? Poop. The GoldenEye sequel? Yep, caca. We mention this not because we want to hate, but to point out that EA’s overdue for a half-decent non-Harry Potter licensed game.
Now we have Superman Returns, a movie, much less a game, that millions are hoping will finally return Supes to his proper place among the comic book superheroes... that are optioned into live-action feature films... that don’t suck so bad you cry yourself to sleep at night because your childhood memories have been soiled beyond repair.
The difference between all the games we mentioned in that first paragraph is that EA Tiburon, the dev house behind Madden series, is heading up the development project. Given the size of EA’s Florida studio, it’s entirely possible that we could be seeing something promising coming out of what was once the near-exclusive home of football and NASCAR titles.
“We have assembled world class talent at EA Tiburon to deliver this blockbuster experience and we are thrilled to team up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics and have the opportunity to demonstrate our creative and technological expertise in the action/adventure category,” squealed Steven Chiang, vice president and studio general manager at EA Tiburon. “We are creating a game that allows players to experience a real sense of flying, and master Superman's unrivaled super hero powers in order to save Metropolis. Only Superman can meet challenges of this scale.”
“Bringing Superman Returns to life in a game of this magnitude that mixes the comic lore with some movie elements delivers a powerful and emotional gaming experience to consumers. X05's worldwide stage is the perfect place to announce the return of this incredibly strong super hero to the interactive space,” added EA Executive Vice President and General Manager for International Publishing Gerhard Florin.
“The powerful Superman Returns property will be rightfully brought to gamers with a strong creative vision supported by compelling new technology so they can experience The Man of Steel’s superpowers firsthand,” claimed Jason Hall, Senior Vice President for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are excited to be working with the very talented people at EA and together we intend to give the game buying audience an opportunity to jump into the life of one of the most popular DC Comics super heroes of all time.”
For those wondering, X05 is Microsoft’s huge Xbox event, and likely where all the attention is right now, since the 360 is admittedly stupid cool. Superman Returns is being touted as a highlight of the 360’s library, but “current generation consoles” are listed as well. Nothing like playing second fiddle to the new hardware hotness, eh guys? Yeah, we need our blanky.
