Activision Cleans Up At Retail

The Santa Monica-based publisher cleaned house in April of this year, besting every other publisher in the industry in sales. Find out how and why inside.

According to long time PSX2.com partner NPD Funworld, Activision managed to help quite a few of their games fly of shelves last April, bumping up the publisher's market share to 15.3%, 6.1% more than last year at the same time. Actual dollar figures jumped an impressive 179% over cash raked in back around the same time in '01.

The surge in sales was attributed to Activision's tried and true franchises, including the venerable Tony Hawk series, the Spider-Man games based on the movie, and the continued success of big name PC titles like Return To Casle Wolfenstein. In fact, the company was the only publisher to log a game in the top-five across all three next-gen systems.

"Activision's strong franchises continue to fuel the company's record performance," boasted Activision President Ron Doornink. "We are pleased with the success of our key brands across all of the console systems and continue to benefit from our strategy of leveraging franchise titles across multiple platforms."

With a lineup that includes instantly bankable franchises like DOOM III and Tony Hawk 4, it doesn't appear Activision will be slipping any time soon. We'll keep you posted on any further uber-juicy financial news headed out of Santa Monica as soon as it breaks.
