This week, Activision Inc. announced a number of new titles that the company will be developing for the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. The gaming firm hopes to release a total of eight titles by the end of the year utilizing these Marvel properties.

Of the games to arrive in 2001, two new titles will be created for the PS one console. These include Spider Man 2: Enter Electro and X-Men: Mutant Academy 2 which both plan to arrive to the console this Fall. Both games are sequels to games that have arrived onto the PS one console in the last year.

Of the two games, Mutant Academy 2 will be the fifth X-Men related game to arrive onto the PS one console, with Spider Man 2: Enter Electro being the second game to utilize the legendary comic book franchise. Besides the PS one, games were also announced for other platforms such as the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PC and Dreamcast platforms.

Oddly enough, Activision made no mention of any PlayStation 2 titles that would be taking advantage of any of Marvel's franchises. We may have to wait until E3 2001 before we get any clear word concerning PS2 development.
