SEGA of America has big plans, announcing today its partnership with Total War developer The Creative Assembly and a new action title for consoles, Spartan: Total Warrior. Serving as CA's debut on those boxy contraptions we call consoles, Spartan ditches the strategy approach for much more in-your-face action, putting players smack dab in the middle of the rise against the Roman Empire.
"All of us at CA are delighted to be working with SEGA, who share our vision of creating genre defining games," admits Tim Ansell, Managing Director of The Creative Assembly. "Spartan: Total Warrior is an original game-play experience based upon dynamic, epic action-combat and we could find no better global partner than SEGA, who wrote the book on console gaming."
"With Spartan: Total Warrior, CA has developed a title that offers both dynamic, real-time combat sequences and epic-sized battles; a combination that has never been technically accomplished on this generation of hardware," gushes Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of marketing, SEGA of America. "This partnership underscores SEGA's strategy to publish more great game content designed to appeal to western gamers."
Amidst the clash of fearless armies, mythical beasts and legendary monsters will work themselves into the mix, giving players quite the intention to put their combat moves to use, which include various melee and missile weapons, special and finishing moves, blocks, shield charges and evasive maneuvers when in a jam. Animation is said to be fluid and realistic like we like 'em, with rich battlefields ranging from wastelands to full-scale cities to dungeons and mountains to even Rome's Imperial Coliseum.
The mighty showdown will wage in stores come September 2005. Peep our media section for the first trailer and screenshots.
