Soul Calibur III Revealed

Now exclusive to the PS2, and we have spankin' new screens and movies to boot!

In an exciting move, Namco has announced the third installment in their famed weapons-based fighting series, Soul Calibur will released later this year. Soul Calibur II was what many consider to be the greatest weapons-based fighter of all time. And guess what, folks? You can say good bye to exclusive characters because now every character is exclusive to your PS2. In a stunning announcement, Namco stated that round three of the Soul Calibur series will be found solely on the Playstation 2.

Soul Calibur III will offer the typical updates of a fighting game sequel like updated game play and graphics, new stages, plus three new characters. Soul Calibur III also comes with an abundance of old and new modes for you to wage battle in. Along with the standby Vs. and Practice Modes, Tales of Souls Mode will be the story mode of Soul Calibur III where you can take your favorite character and lead them through their own story.

But hey, what happens if you’re not a fan of the SC cast? Well to put it bluntly, if you don’t like their characters, make your own. For the first time in the series, players will be able to create their own character, adjusting their gender, occupation, appearance, and their weapon of choice. Once created, you can take your character into the Chronicles of the Sword Mode and fight as them in what Namco calls “real time simulation.” Also available is Museum Mode which allows you to view the recent history of the franchise. Also included is the Soul Arena Mode which Namco simply describes as featuring “unique and original battles”. Cryptic? You bet. Are we excited? Most definitely.

With Zasalamel, Tira, and Setsuka, the three new fighters, rounding out the cast to a solid 25 characters expect Soul Calibur III to once again be at the top of the list for most wanted games for the fighting fans out there. As the resident Soul Calibur champ of Chester, New Jersey, I’m praying for some online fighting; but Namco hasn’t said a word about it as of yet. Rest assured, we here at PSX2.com will keep you posted as the soul apparently keeps on burning.
