Sony Preps SingStar PS2 Bundle
Come November, you'll get a brand-new white PS2 and everything you need to launch your own karaoke party.

It's a little scary how well the PlayStation 2 is still doing. Though the massive library of absolutely killer titles is no doubt a catalyst for sales, we're flabbergasted by the fact that the system has been purchased nearly 120 million times and still manages to move hundreds of thousands of units every month -- seven years after it originally launched.
That, friends, is longevity, and with the PlayStation 3 struggling and the PSP finally starting to pick up steam a couple years after launch (it'll be helped further still by some great games and the new thinner, lighter update hitting early next month), Sony has refocused the PS2's install base as a social gaming hub with titles like Buzz! The Mega Quiz and new versions of SingStar coming in just a few weeks.
It's the latter franchise that Sony is hoping to make as popular here in the States as it is abroad, which is why they've bundled in SingStar Pop with two microphones with an all-new Ceramic White slimline PlayStation 2 that you can only get as part of the bundle for a nice, even $150. For those keeping track, that's only 20 bucks more than the PlayStation 2 goes for at retail right now, and of course it's an all-new color for those that aren't down with the original black or newer silver versions.
“With our expansive library of titles for PlayStation, led by social gaming experiences such as SingStar, and Buzz!, we have an incredible offering for first-time gaming families,” grinned Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment America's president and CEO. “At $149, the limited edition Ceramic White PlayStation 2, bundled with the family-friendly social gaming title, SingStar Pop, is an unbeatable value that will provide fun for everyone this holiday.”
The new bundle goes on sale this November, which is of course the start of the biggest buying season of the year. While we won't ever pretend to have actual psychic powers, our money's on the PS2 dropping in price to something like $100 shortly after the holidays -- maybe sooner -- though we're sure Sony is going to keep the Ceramic White PS2 as part of this bundle to help maximize returns. Given that SingStar is absolutely awesome, we'd say this is a pretty swanky deal.
