Sony Sings a New Tune
A barrage of contemporary pop hits awaits your late-night drunken renditions with SingStar Pop.
Published: February 12, 2007
So hey, everyone lives karaoke, right? Ok, so while we all can’t make it out to the local pub every Friday night to bang out a couple of sing-along tunes over a round of beers (despite recent TPS late-night antics), there is the convenience of these newfangled videogames, which so recently have helped turned that home console of yours into a personal hitmachine for your tune-belting pleasure. We’ve all grown (begrudgingly) familiar with seeing a new Karaoke Revolution every year, but that sparkly SingStar series has hardly worn its welcome on American soil ever since it skipped the pond from EU with last year’s SingStar Rocks!
As it turns out, not only does SingStar rock, but it pops too! See, while the first game treated us to an assortment of rock hits, the sequel -- yes, there’s a sequel - we mentioned that, right? –- SingStar Pop, intends to do the same justice to the chart-topping pop tunes of yesterday and today. Seriously, some of these songs are so recent, it’s scary. Kids and their devil music…
So how ‘bout those hits, eh?
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite
A-Ha - Take On Me
Alicia Keys - Fallin'
All American Rejects - Move Along
Ashlee Simpson - Invisible
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Blue October - Hate Me
Britney Spears - …One more time
Cartel - Honestly
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Daniel Powter - Bad Day
Destiny's Child - Survivor
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Gorillaz - Feel Good, Inc.
Hinder - Lips of an Angel
Hoobastank - The Reason
James Blunt - You're Beautiful
Jesse McCartney - Beautiful Soul
Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment
My Chemical Romance - Helena
Natasha Bedingfield - These Words
Panic! At the Disco - I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
Rihanna - SOS
Ryan Cabrera - On The Way Down
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I go
The Fray - Over My Head
The Raconteurs - Steady, As She Goes
U2 - Vertigo
Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody
And now, we’ll give you off t—what? No company quote?! Ok, ok, we know how to handle this. Uhm… game features, that’s it! SingStar Pop is EyeToy compatible (as was the first game), a headlining single-player mode, and multiplayer options including Duet Mode, the one-on-one Battle Mode and a team-based Pass-the-Mic. As an added bonus, a quick disc swap feature allows players to access the entire Rocks! library of songs and vice versa. Hey, that was easy!
SingStar Pop will be out on April 3, 2007, so you have no excuse not to mark it on your calendar. Uncannily specific, we know, but we don’t make the news; we just write it!
