SCEA Springs Forward

With “more than 100 first- and third-party PS3, PSP and PlayStation 2 titles” launching in the next few months, it’s apparently a good time to own a Sony platform.

"Our second-quarter line-up of PS3, PSP and PlayStation 2 software titles demonstrates a continued commitment from both SCEA and third-party developers to the PlayStation family of products," begins Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing, SCEA. "We are excited by the content being developed by our partners, but are also looking forward to launching PlayStation-branded exclusive games created by our own worldwide studios this quarter and throughout the rest of 2007."

And a promising quarter it looks to be for the company, with SCEA announcing today some key titles slated to arrive this Q2 2007 (which began the 1st of this month and runs through the end of June). In fact, Sony claims “more than 100 first- and third-party PS3, PSP and PlayStation 2 titles will launch during the next few months of 2007,” an open-ended but certainly exciting proposition.

The line-up also reaches out to downloadable games via the PlayStation Network, said to include the belated Calling All Cars!, the five remaining classics from the recent SOE/Midway shack-up, as well as another batch said “old-school classic PlayStation games for PSP.”

Here are the spring 2007 highlights, with definite month and/or month and day release dates (though oft tentative) listed where applicable. Dig ‘em!

The line-up is certainly no word of the gospel; release dates are plenty tentative as it is, not to mention games like Final Fantasy II have already been confirmed for mid- to late-summer release (July 24, in its case), effectively bumping them into the Q3 2007 slot. But Manhunt 2 and Ridge Racer 2 by June 31? We’d love to see it. Once we nail down some more specific dates, though, we’ll be sure to report back.
