One Heavy Fall Season

Hooray, more loosely-classified Machinima!

Look, all of us here like to pretend we’re entrepreneurs, and we like to think what we’re doing will someday make us enough money to pay off the student loads and tens of thousands of dollars in credit card debt we’ve racked up, which is why we don’t particularly mind giving a little extra press to the boys and girls down at Heavy.com, who are trying – really trying – to woo the late teen to twenty-something crowd.

Examples? They’ve announced their fall lineup, filled with the heavy use of footage from games redubbed with “humorous” bits of dialogue to tweak things to make them better. It’s not really the classic definition of Machinima, where the full engine is literally re-used with in-game models and unique camera moves to construct something that you wouldn’t normally get from playing the standard game. but who’s to say that swapping in some dialogue with footage from the actual game can’t be funny? It worked for Red vs. Blue, didn’t it?

Heavy apparently agrees, and they’ve tapped talent to use game footage from no less than seven different game engines. Here’s the full lineup of new shows:

Gangster Nanny 911 - Machinima created using Activision’s True Crime 2. One of three machinimas that Heavy’s creating for Activision

Tourettes Cowboy - Machinima created using Activision’s Gun.

The Amazing Super Powered Emo Kid -- Well…It’s Tony Hawk! First machinima title to include celebrity endorsement. Created using Activision’s Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland.

Honey, I killed the Geezer -- The tale of a serial killer with a serious case of I.B.S. who befriends a Geezer with prostate problems. They talk about life, love and the pursuit of good digestion. Made from Indigo Prophecy game engine; first Machinima with Atari

Dr. Philpra, Colossus Whisperer -- Heavy’s second machinima series for Sony, following the success of the seminal “Pimp My Weapon,” which has already streamed more than 9 million episodes. Created using Shadow of the Colossus.

Half-Metal Jacket -- It’s Bad News Bears meets Stripes meets machinima. A story of lovable loser Navy Seals who are trying to get it right. Created using Sony’s SOCOM 3.

Need For Speed: The Musical -- A high-octane fuel injected romp. It's Fast and the Furious meets Knight Rider meets Cats. Machinima created using EA’s Need For Speed

And there you have it. Now, maybe we’ll end up with some much-needed advertisers.
