ModernGroove has finally landed a license to develop future titles for the PlayStation2 console. The firm is composed primarily of former Electronic Arts Canada employees.

EA Canada is best known for its work in development Snowboard SuperX (SSX); a new snowboarding title to hit the PS2 this October. Apparently, the firm first received its PlayStation2 development kit back in May of this year but only now attained the license.

This also means that this firm has been working on some upcoming software for the gaming console. Right now, all that has been stated is that ModernGroove is working on a new music-based title for the console.

Adrian Crook; executive producer for the firm stated the following earlier this week:

[blockquote]"When evaluating potential developers, Sony looks for a high level of innovation coupled with the ability to deliver a great product. Our team is excited to be given the chance to prove as much on the most significant entertainment platform in the world."

"The PlayStation 2 is the vehicle that will deliver truly interactive entertainment to the home"

"It's the unique abilities of the PlayStation 2 - broadband, DVD, USB - that attracted ModernGroove to the platform. For the first time, pioneering developers can build their dreams without compromise and that's exactly what ModernGroove intends to do."[/blockquote]ModernGroove is headquartered in Los Angeles with several studio operations in Vancouver, British Columbia and was founded in August of 1999. The firm plans to deliver a steady stream of interactive entertainment and streaming media for the PlayStation2 in the near future.

We will have more information on this as it becomes available.
