Deadlocked on Retail

Ratchet and Clank are up to their necks in precariousness this time around, but never count our boys out!

The evolution of a videogame series can be a peculiar process. Why, just look at our dear boy Jak, who has gone from kid-friendly and reserved to gun-touting and intimidating to heck, now a willing participant in vehicular combat!

While the Ratchet & Clank hasn’t seen quite so drastic of changes, it’s still come quite a ways, primarily in Insomniac Games’ focus on delivering a fitting online experience within the game’s universe. Enter Ratchet: Deadlocked, the series’ most shooter-esque outing to date, with squad-based and co-op play, online multiplayer for up to 10, and let’s not forget an original new story mode.

"We are continuing to raise the bar for the videogame industry with Ratchet: Deadlocked," recognizes Grady Hunt, senior producer, product development, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “Ratchet: Deadlocked is proof that developers can continue delivering new installments for a popular franchise while providing players with a whole new gameplay experience. With the addition of new features such as co-op throughout story mode, squad-based functionality and the expansion of the weapons system to allow players more choices, we are sure to deliver one of the most competitive and challenging games for PlayStation 2 this holiday season."

When the dynamic duo is kidnapped by the menacing media mogul Gleeman Vox, Ratchet is forced into participating in an underground reality combat sport show, with “friendly competition” in the form of deadly battles against baddies galore and a band of rather ruthless goons called the Exterminators. If our loveable lombax can make it long enough, he and Clank can escape from Vox’s relentless grip, and with hope, take down the entire Network.

"We really wanted to do something new and fresh that would set Ratchet: Deadlocked apart from the previous games in the Ratchet & Clank series," admits Brian Hastings, Chief Creative Officer, Insomniac Games. "As a team, we were looking for both a creative challenge and an opportunity to expand upon the Ratchet universe, and we believe we've delivered that to gamers with Ratchet: Deadlocked."

We’re currently deadlocked (ha!) in Insomniac’s latest “creative challenge,” so expect a review in the frighteningly near future. Rather give it a whirl yourself? Heck, go for it, champ – Ratchet: Deadlocked now adorns shelves under a $39.99 tag and “Teen” rating.
