Radiata Released

Sure, it’s a crappy headline, but hey, we used alliteration!

Game release press releases dropping into our inbox don’t usually have anyone in the office doing any kind of happy dance (usually, it’s more of a reach-for-the-whiskey-bottle-because-now-I-have-more-work boogie – get off the sauce, Kyle!). Today, however, Chris was doing backflips. Backflips, people. And we’re fairly sure he was partially paralyzed after a freak coding accident, too.

It’s a miracle! Radiata Stories heals! And causes spellcheckers everywhere to freak out!

So here’s the poo: created by Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile developers tri-Ace, RS tells the tale (interactively, mind) of Jack and Ridley, two individuals struggling against their destinies – one dying to become a knight and the other trying to avoid it. Both characters meet up during a training exercise and as war suddenly breaks out between human and fairies across the land of Radiata, Jack must pick a side to fight for.

The game is littered with selling points, of course; 175+ characters to interact with, passage of time and its effects on the game world and inhabitants, a real-time battle system, and of course the ability to kick – literally – anything you want in the game, from tables to people to animals to random inanimate objects that can sense your failure. You’ll pay, rock! However, none of the selling points have one anyone who’s played the game over like the real star of the game: the personality.

Needless to say, we’re psyched, and since Chris has turned into some kind of HappyNinja, we’re going to let him gently caress the game as soon as it comes in. Expect a review sometime thereafter. And possibly he-babies.
