Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 Sneaks Onto Shelves (... And Theaters. And the Internet.)

Yeah, yeah, we know.

Namco Bandai is one damn stealthy company. The latest game in the Naruto series has shipped to stores, and it's almost as if no one noticed. Okay, that's not entirely true. Anime fans are sure to be excited for the game's release which is based on the series produced by VIZ media. Love it or hate it, Naruto was introduced in 1999 by Masashi Kishimoto and skyrocketed to success relatively quickly.

The game picks up where it's predecessor Naruto: Ultimate Ninja left off. Namco Bandai promises that Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 is more fleshed out this time around with more environments, characters, and intense battles. A surprising amount of variety is present in the game, with over 60 missions and 30 characters (including Kakashi, Sasuke, and other fan favorites). Players can also customize their character attributes, train to improve their combat skills, and unlock various music, characters, and other assorted sundries.

We caught up with Makoto Iwai, Executive Vice President and COO, NAMCO BANDAI
Games America Inc. Although he was too busy engaging in a deadly battle with ninjas, in order to verify the accuracy of future Naruto based games, he did manage to gasp, "Playing as their favorite characters, fans can unleash
devastating secret techniques onto their opponents as they relive the
excitement of the series."

To celebrate the launch of the new game and to garner more press for the release, Namco has launched a new website called Hokage's Room, where players will be able to talk with others and complete missions related to the Hidden Leaf Village.

Those who were dedicated enough to check out NARUTO THE MOVIE: NINJA CLASH IN THE LAND OF SNOW in theaters on June 6th were treated to a sneak peak of the now released game. If you missed this opportunity, don't worry: the full game can now be yours for $39.99, a fair bit cheaper than the next-gen games that most companies are pushing out these days. Sure, it's for the PS2, but if you're a fan of the Naruto series... why not? Be sure to check out our preview of the most recent Naurto game for a more detailed look.
