Basketball Stars and Celebs Forced to do Menial Labor
And it’s all in the name of an EA promotion, of course.

We’ve seen more than our fair share of publicity stunts for games, some of them good and some of them very, very misguided. We’re still not entirely sure which end of the spectrum EA Sports’ decision to celebrate the release of NBA Live 06 by having their cover athlete work the register at the NBA Store in New York falls.
It’s a safe bet that when Dwayne Wade got picked for cover honors, he probably didn’t know he’s be working a register again. Sure, EA probably told him about “select publicity events” that he’d have to participate in, but this is certainly more than your typical ribbon cutting ceremony.
On Tuesday, September 27th, Wade and fellow NBA athletes Vince Carter, Chris Bosh and Josh Smith, and celebrities Nick Cannon and Brian McKnight will work the register at the NBA Store on 52nd St. & 5th Ave., selling copies of NBA Live 06 a day early to fans that line up for the event for a scant 40 minutes starting at 3:00PM. Afterwards, they’ll whisked off for a few media interviews, and then pop back out for a meet and greet with fans before everyone is treated to a live NBA TV show with a live performance by Live 06 soundtrack artist Lupe Fiasco.
If you’ve been paying attention (and we know, it’s early), you’ll notice you have just a little over five days to begin your crazy superfan camp-out sleepover plans, so you’d better start packing now, cause 40 minutes isn’t a lot of time to buy a game and we’re willing to bet more people show up than can get sold a game.
