It’s about time SCEA’s struggling basketball series got a fresh injection of innovation. With NBA ’06, which shelves today, players are entitled to a front row seat for the ins and outs of a rookie season, fittingly named “The Live: Vol. 1.” Sure, we’ve crafted original players before, but to see them through not only gameplay missions, but cinematic cut scenes, press conferences, endorsements and even season-blowing injuries? Now we’re talking.
"NBA '06 demonstrates our team's creativity and innovation to deliver a standout game that will not only attract basketball gaming fans, but also fans outside of the sports realm," offers Sharon Shapiro, senior director, promotions and sports product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "We're excited to create NBA '06 from the ground up with new game design, features, and animations. On top of that, introducing a unique, cinematic-style mode such as 'The Life' brings another dimension for gaming fans to truly experience life through the eyes of an NBA player."
Not to be lacking in content, NBA ’06 sports a whopping sixteen mini-games (the newest additions including "Own the Court," "Shout Out," "21," and Top Rung”) that can be played through solo, versus or even online. In an interesting audio choice, players can enjoy somewhat of a first-person experience aurally, hearing the sounds of the court just as an on-court player would. And for that riveting career mode? No less than a movie-like score to hold the tension, we’re sure.
Lace up the size 12’s and become roundball legend yourself by nabbing NBA ’06 from your local game store. We’re certain those endless nights of garage door hoops will pay off…
