Brace Yourself for Armageddon
The Mortal Kombat franchise is going out on current consoles with a bang.

You’ve got hand it to the Midway team. For a franchise that’s seen some awfully despicable lows, Mortal Kombat has managed to bounce back over recent years and reestablish itself as a fighter still worth reckoning with, even nearly 15 years after its arcade and console debut. The series has transcended through continually evolving consoles, from the heyday of the Sega Genesis right up through the current generation of systems. But as the “next-gen era” creeps ever-so steadily on us, so does the next generation of the MK franchise.
Which brings us to Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, or in a word, Midway’s swan song to the current console generation.
"As the final chapter of Mortal Kombat on current generation gaming platforms, we're eager to raise the bar for the fighting genre yet again with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon," emits Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Building off of the tremendous successes of Mortal Kombat: Deception in October 2004 and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks in September 2005, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon introduces the most comprehensive cast of playable characters from every Mortal Kombat title, both past and present, in addition to the first create–a–fighter mode in franchise history."
Yep, you heard right. Every character ever to set foot in the Mortal Kombat universe will be featured in Armageddon. As if a cast of such proportions isn’t sufficient, Midway has thrown in Create-A-Fighter mode (a franchise first, as Steve mentioned) and, oh yeah, Create-A-Fatality (as Steve forgot to mention). All of this is compacted into arguably the most complete Mortal Kombat game to date.
The final showdown between good ‘n’ evil (we assume that’s where they’re going with the “armageddon” shtick) is slated for fall 2006, with the series making its PSP debut (that being Mortal Kombat: Unchained) around that time as well. Once additional details and first media surface, we’ll be sure to bring ‘em your way.
