MGS3 Tourney Time!

It's time for that addiction to finally pay off.

Oh Kojima Productions, you know not what you have wrought. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence did so very many things right. It opened up the world to a 3D camera for the first time, completely changing how the game played, and it introduced a little something called Metal Gear Online, which... well, we're sure you can piece that one together. For a first-time effort (and one that wasn't even planned for the game), it's a remarkable achievement, and as we've watched hours slip by at the hands of the online malady, we're confident in saying it's one of the best online experiences the PlayStation 2 has.

But now it's time to let all those hours of practice go to good use: a tournament. Beginning in just over a week iGames is sponsoring a Subsistence tourney with some rather fancy prizes, if we do say so ourselves. What's more, you don't necessarily have to kill more guys than everyone else to win it, nor is it limited to just team or solo deathmatch (it's both, actually). For eight weekends, you or your team can duke it for the chance to win a HDTV, a surround sound package, in-game awards, MGS documentaries, rare Metal Gear memorabilia and copies of the game. Yes, the very game you'll be playing, but hey, you can give it to a friend, okay?

As mentioned before, grading is based on actual performance, wins or losses per se. The ELO system will dole out a ranking based on how you handled yourself in the matches, and these in turn will be used to deliver the verdict on who or what teams did best in the weekly matches. To be eligible, you need to sign up with iGames and message them for the password to the matches, and you must show up 15-20 minutes before things kick off. Full details are here, as well as all the fun stuff like rules and legal notices.

Even after the time we've spent playing the game, we still suck compared to most, so we're going to just opt out of this -- though we do need a HDTV for the office... Who knows, you may just see us yet! Look for a gaggle of guys with [TPS] before their names. They're easy targets!
