Manhunt 2 Website, Details Come to Light
A chilling look at Rockstar’s latest pet project. You… might not like what you see.

Two months ago when Rockstar Games announced the follow-up to 2003’s sadistic Manhunt, it was apparent off-the-bat that the franchise was headed in new directions. Not only is the game planned for release on an unprecedented three systems – PlayStation 2, PSP and (gulp) Nintendo’s family-friendly Wii – but also looks to be beefing up its story delivery, with plot elements including mind-control and shady medical, er, meddling.
Today marks the launch of the official Manhunt 2 website (and how timely that the Official PlayStation Magazine UK hits racks today with game as its cover story), and with it, pours into some frightening new details as only a viral Rockstar teaser site could do.
We begin with a back-of-the-box type synopsis of the story:
“An experiment at a research facility has gone catastrophically wrong. Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper are the only surviving subjects. The Pickman Project will stop at nothing to hunt them down and stop the truth from getting out.
"Demented screams echo around the dank asylum that has caged you for the last six years. You open your eyes. A white-coated body slumps to the floor through your shaking hands. A bloody syringe slips from your arm. Waves of confusion and paranoia crash over you. You have no idea who you are or how you got here.
"The door to your cell is open. One choice. One chance. They took your life. Time to take it back."
Hmm… so perhaps you will be teaming up with a (presumably) AI-controlled cohort after all. And as a fresh, blood-coated batch of screens on the site illustrate, it appears Danny-boy will have a handful of new and returning toys at his disposal: handguns, shotguns, clubs, syringes (yikes), to name a few. We even caught sight of a more elaborate death rig, which involved Daniel operating a crank to pull up his victim in a noose.
If you’re really in for a scare, we might recommend delving into the patient files of the Dixmor Asylum for the Criminally Insane (the game’s unsettling setting, we take it). It’s a Flash-navigated tour through the barren halls of the place where – if you so care – you can scope out a few reports detailing the asylum’s inhumane experiments. The one we read was a several-week log of one captive’s actions after he was thrown into solitary confinement, joined by rotting corpses and led down a path into all-out cannibalism. Ugh.
Gruesome enough for you? The first official trailer and a fistful of screens await you in media section if you’d prefer just a tease of the horror to come. This summer, we’re all gettin’ out.
