Tunes from the Gridiron
Why hello there, Madden 07 soundtrack announcement.
Published: June 23, 2006
In the mystical land of Electronic Arts, everything has a fancy name, and that name is trademarked, so you'd better not steal it. None, however, have caused so much internet nerd rage and scorn as EA Trax, so much so that we can't recall the last game we saw the brand make an appearance in. Part of the problem was that it simply applied a label to the soundtrack, and those songs were chosen to appeal to the mass market. This of course will not do, for internet message boards are filled with music snobs and if it's Top 40, it must therefore suck.
Well, guess what, kids? These 35 new tracks that will dot the sonic landscape of Madden NFL 07 aren't going to be turning anyone around (not unless they actually admit to liking a good chunk of emo music). Okay, not Emo, "alternative" rock, and there are some Hip-Hop tracks in here too (it is a Madden game after all), but the shift is certainly towards the whinier end of the rock spectrum. Which is of course right where we like it, but then we're a bunch of dorks.
“Year after year, the music selected for inclusion in EA’s smash hit football series invariably becomes the soundtrack of the football season, moving beyond the game to turn up in football stadiums and on live TV broadcasts,” claims Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA. “The Madden NFL Football franchise is recognized across North America as a driving force behind break-out bands… this year EA does it again.”
Ho hooo, someone is a little sure of themselves, eh? Apparently EA has taken a page from the Sony public speaking handbook and thrown down the gauntlet. If this is indeed true, football is starting to rock out a little harder, something that surprises us, but hey, we don't really watch all that much football (except for Chris, who will totally shoot anyone in the face if we interrupt his precious Denver games). Since we're both lazy and cut-and-paste prone, we'll just toss the list in here and let you be the judge. Enjoy!

See? Lots o' rock in there. A surprising amount, really, but Hip-Hop is indeed anything but dead. In addition to the tracks you can pick out there, Da Riffs have once again returns to throw their spin (ho hooo) on almost a dozen NFL Films tracks to help give the game that special Hip-Hop-meets-highlight-reel. Cozy! You'll be able to hear the tunes (and, we'd imagine, play the game) when Madden 07 hits in August.
