You've All Gone Madden Crazy!

1.7 million copies? Guess that countdown teaser campaign worked, eh?

Go ahead, laugh at all the people that buy a copy of Madden every year even though you know it's pretty much the same game with updated roster. G'head, feel free, cause right now someone at EA is probably swimming in cash -- possibly even swimming in pennies Scrooge McDuck style, because they now own a solid titanium robot body that they bought with the royalty check.

1.7 million freaking copies. Not surprisingly, that's the biggest opening week EA's ever seen for the series in the 16 years it's been around, but come on, people, I think it's time to admit you have a problem. Of course, no amount of us naysayers will stop you from making it the number one game every singly effing year, but at least you now know you're not alone.

"Gamers were demanding the best Madden NFL Football ever this year and the response at retail indicates that we delivered the game that everyone wanted," said deliriously rich EA VP of Marketing Todd Sitrin. "Consumers have voted with their dollars, and the vote is in – this is the best version of Madden NFL Football ever. The strong starts of NCAA Football 06 and Madden NFL 06 set the pace for a strong EA Sports lineup of titles this fall. Up next from EA are FIFA Soccer 06, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06, NBA LIVE 06 and the rest of our EA SPORTS lineup."

Sitrin was then seen doing backflips around his office before fighting off a small army of Ninjas-For-Hire and was carried off by a life-size robot replica of Wonder Woman made of 24-karat solid gold.

"EA ups its game for the best Madden yet," boasted Matthew Kato, Senior Editor of Game Informer magazine with a quote seemingly out of the blue. "They delivered substantial innovation to the Madden franchise, making Madden NFL 06 a must-have title of the year."

"You'd think the big news in the locker-room this week was the start of the preseason, but all everyone could talk about was the new Madden game,” giggled Green Bay All Pro Running Back Ahman Green. "Everyone had to check out their new ratings and the new features in the game."

I hope you're happy with yourselves, sports gamers. You've managed to make a lot of people in both Redwood City and Orlando really freaking happy.
