Eidos Gets Fresh

The house that Lara built is launching a new branch, filled with kooky Japanese goodness. All the details inside.

Oh, that Eidos. Every once in a while they'll pull something that makes you scratch your head a bit. Of course, there are times when you start out scratching and end up applauding an effort (as in the case of today's Deus Ex story). Fresh Games lies somewhere in between. On the one hand, you're glad a big publisher is actually taking the time to bring out some lesser-known (and some downright obscure) Japanese titles, but at the same time, this isn't exactly the most opportune time to start venturing into new areas of publishing with the economy as it is... or is it?

The first three games to ring in the launch of the new division will be Mister Mosquito, Mad Maestro and Legaia 2: Duel Saga, all developed overseas by SCEI, but were never picked up by SCEA. While the first two games won't ring a bell for almost anyone, the latter should pique a little interest. Legaia 2 is indeed the sequel to the Sony published/developed Legend of Legaia for the PlayStation, and preserves the quirky blend of fighting game-style combos with traditional RPG elements. We'll be sure to give you screens and full story details as they're released, as we've already gotten a few e-mails concerning Contrail's newest RPG effort.

Mad Maestro and Mister Mosquito (Bravo Music and Ka in Japan), however, are a different story. It's a good bet almost none of you have heard of either, and if you have, it was most likely just a comment or two. Since we know you're all horribly interested in seeing what these games look like, we're happy to toss out a slew of screens and movies (try the first two links first, then ours) to whet your appetite.
