College Rock, Baseball Style

Because nothing says indie rock like college baseball.

Whoa, hey, look at that. After like 80 gajillion stories where we said we’d update you with more info, we can finally do it for a game that was literally announced with little more than a paragraph or two (which of course never stopped us from whipping up a huge news story filled with quotes and fluff). Granted, it’s not really any more info about the game, but at least we can clue you in to the soundtrack for MVP 06 NCAA Baseball.

10 tracks from Victory Records, they of the independent something-or-other fame, have been tapped to provide the musical backdrop to all those cheering crowds and the distinctive metallic “pink” that tells you it’s not the MLB, but the players will certainly kick your ass if you tell them that. Seriously, don’t even try; those guys are consumed with the game, and metal bats don’t splinter when they hit your skull, they just get little bitty dents in em.

The deal gives three bands a chance to debut new singles through the game, which is an unorthodox way to release new music to be sure, but then this is EA we’re talking about, masters of the advertising blitz. Hawthorne Heights’ “This Is Who We Are,” Waterdown’s “Repeater” and Action Action’s “Paper Cliché” will all appear first in the game... or the 20-something song sample CD that you get if you pre-order the game.

“Anyone on campus will tell you that Victory Records is the coolest brand in rock. Pairing them up with EA SPORTS was a perfect fit,” claims Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA. “Each one of these songs intensifies the thrill of victory… or the agony of defeat.”

Here are each of those songs, feel free to let them take you to new heights of happiness or pull you down into an endless pit of despair, as they’re apparently likely to do according to our friend Steve:

Action Action -- Paper Cliché
Aiden -- Die Romantic
Bayside -- Devotion And Desire
Hawthorne Heights -- This Is Who We Are
Silverstein -- Smile In Your Sleep
The Forecast -- These Lights
The Audition -- Approach The Bench
The Black Maria -- Organs
The Junior Varsity -- Get Comfortable
Waterdown -- Repeater
