Winter may have nestled its way in, but in months we'll be back to a lifestyle of snug sandals for those pantsless walks around the office (too much detail?) Sure, we're adjusted to the perpetual change of seasons, but what about for a gang of subzero heroes who is witnessing their familiar little Ice Age turn a melting paradise?

We're talking Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, folks, a full-blown sequel to 20th Century Fox's animated hit in theatres, and like clockwork, Vivendi Universal Games has announced that a movie-based game is in development.

"We are excited to continue our successful partnership with Fox to create an extension of the Ice Age story in a fully engaging interactive entertainment experience," charmed Peter Della Penna, Chief Operating Officer, Product Development for VU Games. "Academy Award-winning animation studio Blue Sky, has contributed an impressive visual style and hilarious storyline for our development partners to turn into great family gaming."

With the world in liquid shambles, Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Sabre-Toothed Tiger devise a plan to get themselves to safety before their valley becomes ineviteably flooded, but not without the help of saber-toothed squirrel and all-around fan favorite Scart. This accidental hero will lead the quest to salvation, one of courage, boldness and... acorn collecting!

"VUG is a great and proven partner for some of our major theatrical releases," chimed Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President Licensing & Merchandising. "In conjunction with the release of the motion picture Ice Age 2, the release of this outstanding video game brilliantly expands on our Ice Age franchise."

"Brilliantly!" We'll see just how well this one shines through when its multi-console release arrives in spring 2006. Keep an eye out for updates, for they're a-comin'.
