Burnout 2 Is Coming

No flesh shall be spared, the machine-driven mayhem will soon be upon us, car crashes have never been so... purdy.

Lame headline? Yep, you'd better believe it, but that still doesn't change the fact that Burnout 2 IS coming, and believe us, you're gonna want to delve right into every metal mangling, glass shattering moment of it.

"But Sam," you sneer, "I didn't give a crap out the first game. In fact, I didn't even PLAY the first game."

Well sonny, you're missing out on a game myself here at PSX2.com and myself at IGN.com both say rocks your world. If there are any PS2 owners out there that are reading this and haven't yet experienced the goodness, you'd better stop reading right now and go get a copy! No, wait, don't stop reading. Instead, read a little further.

See, the original Burnout drew from a couple different influences, but nothing deliberate. For the sequel, however, UK-based Criterion Games has tweaked and beefed up the stunningly flexible Renderware platform to accomodate visuals that should leave that jaw slacked and that mouth agape, and your eyes swearing they've seen some of this stuff before. That's no accident, as the action in Burnout 2 is tied in a little more deliberately to big action movies like Speed, Bad Boys and most recently The Fast and the Furious.

A whopping 32 spankin' new tracks are up for grabs and 14 vehicles are yours for the racing as you zip through a number of real-life locales like Los Angeles, Miami, New Mexico, The Rocky Mountains and even an airport. Still, there may be some of you out there that are skeptical that the PS2 can go toe-to-toe with the Gamecube and Xbox versions of the game -- especially after seeing the much improved ports of the original. Fair enough, but we needn't say another word on the subject. Instead, we'll let screenshots do the talking. Enjoy.
