AIAS Announces First Annual Summit Of Game Industry Leaders

The new annual summit of leaders from the interactive entertainment industry has been given the nickname D.I.C.E.; Design, Innovate, Communicate and Entertain. Look inside for more information on this historic event.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced the creation of D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain). The summit will feature some of the most visionary minds in the gaming industry today, and they will convene to discuss the creative process and the future of interactive entertainment.


Confirmed participants of the event include:

- Sid Meier, Co-Founder of Firaxis Games and creator of   Civilization.
- Will Wright, Co-Founder and Chief Designer of Maxis and   creator of Sim City and The Sims.
- Larry Probst, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts.
- Jason Rubin, President and Co-Founder of Naughty Dog and   creator of Crash Bandicoot.
- David Freeman, Writer and Producer with credits in film,   television and interactive media, including Co-Writer of Shiny   Entertainment's up-coming Matrix game.
- Lorne Lanning, President and Creative Director of Oddworld   Inhabitants and creator of Abe's Odysee.
- Louis Castle, General Manager of Westwood Studios (i.e.   developer of Command & Conquer series).
- Mark Cerny, President of Cerny Games, producer of the Crash   Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon series.
- Bruce Shelley, Senior Designer of Ensemble Studios, creators   of the Age of Empire series.

Paul Provenzano, President and Executive Director of AIAS had the following to say about the event:
[blockquote]"The industry needs a gathering where interactive entertainment can be discussed as an art in addition to a commercial product. D.I.C.E will bring together people with extensive interactive experience to share ideas and information in a unique way that will help elevate and enhance the industry as a whole."[/blockquote]Lorne Lanning, President of Oddworld Inhabitants, also had some words about the first annual summit:
[blockquote]"Interactive entertainment is our civilization's most rapidly evolving art form. A forum like D.I.C.E., where we can come together to share new ideas and solutions for challenges unique to this industry, is an essential tool for pioneers in our field. D.I.C.E. is the perfect setting for interactive professionals to candidly discuss ways in which innovation and creativity will continue to shape the future of gaming."[/blockquote]D.I.C.E will be held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas from February 28 - March 1, 2002, in conjunction with the Fifth Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. The show recognizes outstanding achievement and innovation in craft, console, computer and online games. Like the Academy Awards, the Interactive Achievement Awards are based on nominations by the interactive entertainment community and voted on by Academy members. There are 30 award categories including: game design, children's titles, sound, programming, and awards for "Game of the Year" and "Hall of Fame."
