THQ announced a new mission-based snowboarding game for the PlayStation 2 today. If anything can 'one-up' the creative formula from SSX, it could be this.

Today, THQ announced a new snowboarding game for the PlayStation 2 and XBox consoles. Dark Summit will be a mission-based snowboarding game, which will feature detailed objectives along with a complex storyline to be presented with the various challenges.

More than 45 different objectives and tasks are presented on Mt. Garrick. Completing such tasks, such as 'Half Pipe Hero' and 'Backcountry Helicopter', will allow you to earn reputation points, which allow you to eventually unlock areas which are normally restricted to all. Ultimately, players will have to uncover the mystery surrounding the sinister Chief O'Leary, Mt. Garrick's park ranger.

Dark Summit will be developed by Radical Entertainment, the same group who has created various MTV Sports snowboarding games for the PS one including MTV Sports: Pure Ride. Michael Rubinelli, Vice President of Product Development for THQ stated the following today:
[blockquote]"'Dark Summit' is a revolutionary game design in that it's the first snowboarding game to incorporate mission-based objectives and a compelling story line. It combines high-flying, crazy, big air tricks with tactical challenges and a compelling story line to keep gamers hooked from beginning to end, yet it never loses sight of the tight physics and gorgeous graphics you'd expect from a ground breaking Xbox [or PS2] title."[/blockquote]Dark Summit for the PlayStation 2 is currently expected to be ready by Winter 2001.
