Annie, Get Your GUN... As Long As You’re 17+.

The Old West is Activision’s newest release.

If you ask us, there just isn’t enough western-based properties out there- the last good thing that was loosely based on westerns was the sorely missed Firefly tee-vee show, and Lord help us, we’re a hankerin’ for some wild west action! Well, Activision seems to have read what passes for our mind with the announcement that it was riding out its highly anticipated action/spaghetti western action (‘cause there better be A LOT of action) game GUN to a general store near you.

The game, developed by Tony Hawk legends Neversoft Entertainment, is trying to work its way into the small segment of country music stars and backwater hicks that just found electricity that have yet to play video games, or at least that’s my story. Good news is that the game looked Oh-So-Sexy™ at E3 last year, so we’re chomping at the preverbal bit to take a look at it. GUN is about Colton White, a vengeful gunslinger who straddles the line between good and evil as he makes his way through the untamed West of the late-1800s where greed, lust and brutality were a way of life, actually sounds like a good romp through the wild west. Let’s hope that it’s better than that Wild Wild West/Will Smith fiasco, and lives up to all the fuss.

GUN transports players back to a time in American history when laws were virtually non-existent and the only true friend was a gun,” said an eerily fittingly monikered Dusty Welch, vice president of global brand management for Activision Publishing. “Players will be drawn into an epic free roaming action-adventure that will have them on the edge of their seats as they brave the elements and battle challenging enemies through the backdrop of the American West.”

And coming from a guy named “Dusty”, how could you doubt that this game is going to be awesome. Or at least as good at the other Neversoft offerings- have they ever done a bad game? Here’s to hoping that this isn’t the start! GUN is currently on the Oh-So-Loved™ PlayStation 2 as well as Xbox and GameCube for those wonderin’) for about $50, and if your PS2 breaks, well, you can pick up the PC version for a suggested retail price of two Jacksons. All versions come with a Oh-So-Lucious™ ESRB rating of “M” (“Mature” – Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Use of Alcohol, Dead Bears, Excessive 1800s Slang), so this cowpoke aint one fer the kiddies, ya hear?

TotalPlayStation.com is planning on wrangling up a review as soon as we figure out where the seatbelt is on this dad-nab horse!

Oh-So-Sexy™, Oh-So-Loved™, and Oh-So-Lushes™ are not even close to registered trademarks- but don’t you dare use them! They’re mine, all mine!

This is the Game News Minute- thanks for being in it.
