[Pre-E3 2006] Kentia Hall, Are You Ready to Rock?
I saaaaaaaaaid... are you ready to rawwwwk?
Published: May 4, 2006
Kentia Hall is something of a ghost town. Normally the site of bizarre Engrish-tastic Korean quasi-porno games and companies selling a retro collection of 500 emulated arcade classics in a custom stand-up cabinet, it's often no-man's land for a lot of members of the press, though skipping it entirely would be cheating yourself of the experience of finding serious diamonds in the rough (plus, if we ever end up getting a booth, we'll be down there, so we're hoping for some good karma).
But, as they are ought to do, RedOctane's going to turn this mutha out, Guitar Hero II-style in a live concert that will both soil the britches of the poor, sheepish companies that line the walls of the hall and bring a flood of people down to Kentia that probably haven't been there in the past five years combined. Such is the power of Guitar Hero -- or rather the bands that have been in the games.
The inspiration for the in-game character Judy Nails, Halo Friendlies' guitarist Judita Wignall (who returns for the sequel), will make an appearance, and live shows from Marcus Henderson, Shaimus and Graveyard BBQ will fill all three days of the show with delightful music. That of course means that thousands of people won't be able to get "All of This" out of the freakin' heads for weeks. Thanks, Shaimus. The schedule is as follows:
[WEDNESDAY, May 10th]
11 a.m. & 3 p.m.
Hard-rock band Drist starring Marcus Henderson will rock the crowd and perform hits from their newly launched album "Orchids and Ammunition!" Marcus is an original guitar hero who recorded multiple guitar tracks for the Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II soundtracks.
[THURSDAY, May 11th]
10 a.m. & 3 p.m.
Graveyard BBQ, winners of the first "Be a Guitar Hero" competition, will perform their winning song "Cheat on the Church" along with many others from their debut album "Graveyard BBQ Greatest Hits Volume 1."
[FRIDAY, May 12th]
10 a.m. & 2 p.m.
Los Angeles-based rock sensation Shaimus will woo the crowd with the smooth stylings from their recently released album "Paper Sun," including their first hit single "All of This" from Guitar Hero.
Oh, but that's not all. The list of seven tracks that will be playable at E3 are (and we only know the titles here, so we're guessing on the artist):
The Reverend Horton Heat - "Psychobilly Freakout"
KISS - "Strutter"
Butthole Surfers - "Who Was in My Room Last Night?"
The Kinks - "You Really Got Me,"
Black Sabbath - "War Pigs"
Falling Joys - "YYZ"
?? - "Arterial Black" (We're guessing -- nay hoping -- that this was an original song contributed, since the title has stumped everyone in the office)
We'll be going hands-on with GHII in just a few days, and they'll have to pry the plastic replica Gibson SG from our cold, dead hands before we'll let go. Just so you know.
