E3 2003: Stars Shine at the Playa del PlayStation
SCEA's invite-only celebrity beach party gives the biggest names in showbiz a helping of PlayStation 2 action!
Published: May 14, 2003
Sony Computer Entertainment America rocked yesterday's Electronic Entertainment Expo 2003 conference by joining together today's biggest celebrities at the "Playa del PlayStation," an amazing beach-themed gaming party held at the one and only Santa Monica Viceroy Hotel. From Tobey Maguire to Eve to Kelly Osbourne, this exclusive event included tons of celebrities, lots of sand, seaside cabanas, and even a musical performance by 50 Cent.
This invite-only event allowed Hollywood's A-list, including Demi Moore, Jessica Biel, Aisha Tyler and Donald Faison, to preview the newest addition to the PlayStation 2 family, EyeToy, and several upcoming titles for the platform. David Spade and Christian Slater went head-to-head in high-speed competition on PlayStation 2's newest title Gran Turismo 4 while David Arquette and Tobey Maguire tested their agility on Rise to Honor, featuring martial arts master Jet Li. The party culminated center stage with a performance by 50 Cent in celebration of E3 while Leonardo DiCaprio, Tara Reid, Tracee Ellis Ross and Joy Bryant rapped along to "In Da Club." This rounds out PlayStation 2's impressive history of musical line-ups such as Ja Rule, Jane's Addiction, Alicia Keys and Outkast.
The star-studded party comes on the heels of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s surprise announcement of plans to add a handheld platform to its consumer product portfolio with the introduction of "PSP." Available in 2004, the "PSP" will allow consumers to enjoy gaming and other entertainment content anywhere, anytime -- the walkman of the future.
While you might not be able to try out the PlayStation 2 games of tomorrow alongside the celebs themselves, you CAN get the full scoop on all of the PS2's upcoming titles right here as we bring you live coverage from the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2003. Stay tuned with PSX2.com!
