Sony recently renamed the Japanese version of Gran Turismo 2 A Spec for PlayStation 2 to Gran Turismo 3: A Spec a few weeks ago, because the game includes enough enhancements over the original PlayStation version of Gran Turismo 2 to allow for a true sequel.
An arcade version of Gran Turismo 3 using the System 246 arcade board is in the works. Gran Turismo 3: A Spec for PS2 is scheduled for release in Japan in January 2001. The game supports up to six simultaneous players through the i-Link cable.
In related news, Sony mentioned that development has begun on Gran Turismo 4 for PS2. Sony intends to include support for Internet play in GT4.
