E3 2003: Konami Continues Their Musical Revolution

Get ready to experience the joy of karaoke right from your living room with Konami's Karaoke Revolution.

Konami turned your PlayStation 2 into a dance pad with Dance Dance Revolution, and now it's looking to transform it into a karaoke machine with the debut of Karaoke Revolution at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2003. Featuring a slew of hit songs accompanied by gorgeous 3D graphics, Karaoke Revolution will bring the joy of singing kararoke into the homes of gamers of all ages.

"Karaoke Revolution transforms the way people use their PlayStation 2 by delivering the newest and most entertaining karaoke experience available," said Geoff Mulligan, COO, Konami of America, Inc. "Konami has dominated the music game category with our mega-popular dancing series Dance Dance Revolution and now our next revolution will have everyone passing the mic to become the next pop star."

So how will this concept work exactly? By taking advantage of the latest voice recognition technology, as well as Sony's official headset/microphone peripheral, Karaoke Revolution will actually judge each player's pitch and rhythm during their performance to determine their ultimate score. Players will be able to choose from a plethora of popular songs, including karaoke favorites, rock, dance, pop and R&B hits. To go along with a player's performance, the in-game crowd will react in real time to each note song through either cheering or booing (so if you suck, you'll know it!).

Karaoke Revolution will feature three innovate game modes: Showtime, Arcade, and Karaoke. Showtime Mode is more of the story mode, where players must work their way up from singing at small clubs to headlining the ultimate concert venue. In addition, the wildly addictive Arcade and Karaoke Modes will have players singing their favorite tunes for hours and hours!

Karaoke Revolution is currently being developed by Harmonix, the masterminds behind Frequency and Amplitude, and will be hitting store shelves in November 2003. To find out more about Karaoke Revolution, check out the official Konami site.
