The game that will put Sony Computer Entertainment America San Diego on the map is coming to your PS2. Find out what the hullabaloo is all about inside.

While little of SCEA San Diego's The Mark of Kri has been revealed, and even less shown, the game is already making a splash among those that have had a chance to peek at the game. Borrowing heavily from hand drawn sketches and animation to help merge the traditionally 2D art form with that of the polygonally-driven 3D action game, Mark of Kri actually promises to segway seamlessly from hand-sketched videos to full-on art to 3D environments.

Those willing to pick up the controller will take control of Rau, a burly Conan-like man with his spirit guide and familiar, Kuzo, a raven that fills wears a variety of hats, including scout (with an accompanying view for Rau through his eyes when perched), out-of-the-way item fetcher, and helpful enemy distracter.

When it comes time for Rau to tangle with foes, he can do so with one four weapons; a broadsword, bow and arrow, battle axe, Taiaha spear (actually borrowed from the Maori of New Zealand) or can grapple with his beefy mitts should he so choose. Targeting enemies is actually done by pointing at them with the right analog stick, where they'll be assigned one of nine targets. Once targeted, you can attack any enemy with a number of combos, transitioning from one to the next with fluid and lifelike animations.

"With its unique combat system and intense strategic adventure, The Mark of Kri really is the 'thinking man's fighting game,'" boasted SCEA Director of Product Marketing Ami Blaire. "We are adding a truly unique title to the PlayStation 2 library that takes a whole new approach to adventure and action-fighting gaming never seen before."

Techno-rockers Juno Reactor, who previously collaborated with SCEA on Frequency will reprise their musical role, donating original music throughout the game, which will ship July 30th. We'll have full impressions of The Mark of Kri at, you guessed it, E3 at the end of May.
