FlatOut Hits Stores Head-First

Ragdoll physics + high-speed racing = squeals of delight from all of us.

There's not much we can really say about FlatOut that hasn't already been said in our hands-on preview we wrote a while back. In unusually comprehensive fashion, we actually delved rather deeply into the ins and outs of the racing action, and even dabbled a bit in the ragdoll-based mini-games. In other words, you should be reading that instead of this if you want more info.

Of course, if you don't like learning about things ahead of time and just want to charge off and play the game yourself, here's good news: you finally can. Yep, Bugbear Entertainment's interesting little racer has finally shipped to stores and should be waiting for you to give it all that loving attention you won't give us the second you set foot in your nearest game store.

The key to the game, aside from the 36 tracks, 16 upgradable cars and the previously mentioned ragdoll physics, is the impressive damage model. Both trackside and vehicular objects can be destroyed to impressive degrees, with lots o' deformation and eventual sloughing off of car parts. Both debris from the cars and from roadside objects exhibit physics as well, interacting with cars that drive over them.

See? It's just not as cool if you don't read about all the good stuff at once. C'mon, read our preview, we promise you'll get psyched for the game, and now that you can actually pick up a copy, it'll be that much more satisfying. We're going to head of and get a copy ourselves, so expect a review in the next couple of days.
