Square Enix Gets By With a Little Help from More Friends

Forget Dear Friends, Square Enix is going all-out for their next near E3 show.

If you missed our write-up of last year's benchmark-setting Dear Friends Final Fantasy music concert, it would probably be best that you check that out now. Now that you've gotten a gist for what the show is like, fans of video game music brought into the real world will be happy to know that Square Enix has cranked up the festivities even more for what they're calling More Friends.

Piggybacking off the success of the expanded Dear Friends concert tour, More Friends introduces James Arnold Talor, the voice of Final Fantasy X's Tidus, as the show MC. It'll also add in performances from Emiko Shiratori, the vocalist who donated her pipes to Final Fantasy IX theme "Melodies of Life" as well as quasi-J-pop star RIKKI, who did the theme song "Suteki Da Ne" for Final Fantasy X.

Joining series composer Nobuo Uematsu for a high-energy take on the FF games' battle music will be The Black Mages, who were hand-picked by Uematsu himself two years ago and provide a nice rock backdrop to Uematsu's organ playing and the more dulcet sounds of the orchestral movements for the rest of the concert's more orchestral movements.

For now at least, there will only be one performance of More Friends, taking place at 8PM on May 16th at Gibson Amphitheatre on Universal's CityWalk to coincide with the start of E3's week-long blitz. Those dying to get tickets can pick them up from Ticketmaster by clicking here. The tickets will probably go fast, but allow for seat ranging from $40 (the mezzanines) to $90 (right near the orchestra or in the pit).

Why are you still reading this? Go grab your tickets before they sell out!
