The Final Fantasy games have always sold well, both here in the US and especially in Japan, where the first PlayStation game in the series has sold through an astonishing 90% of the 2.14 million copies in just the first four days of its release. This of course makes it the first PS2 game to sell over 2 million copies, and it looks like sales here on this side of the Pacific will do just as well.

"We've seen a terrific response to FINAL FANTASY X at our stores and online at gamestop.com," gushed Doreen McKenzie, GameStop Inc. (the folks who run Software Etc, GameStop and Funcoland) Director of Merchandising, Video Games. "FINAL FANTASY X has pre-sold more units than any other PlayStation 2 title to date. Copies of the game have flown off the shelves throughout the holiday shopping frenzy. This title is a must have for all PlayStation 2 owners."

Although official numbers are not yet in, PSX2.com parner NPDfunworld reports that the game is topping sales in every category in the game's first year of release. We'll keep you posted when actual figures are made available.
