It was only last year around this time that Sega announced the discontinuance of their Dreamcast platform, and the whole gaming industry dumped buckets of cold water on their faces to wake themselves up. As the months went by after the announcement, Sega became a third-party publisher/developer for just about every gaming console and handheld on the market. And now, give Acclaim the rights to publish two of their most highly regarded titles for the Dreamcast, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future and Headhunter.
Sarah Anderson, the Senior Vice President of Brand for Acclaim said that "We're thrilled to continue our successful relationship with Sega and offer two proven brands that are perfectly suited for the expanding PlayStation 2 audience." She also said that "delivering countless hours of action and entertainment, both titles illustrate our ongoing commitment to publishing compelling next-generation software for the masses."
So with the porting of these titles to the PS2, you can't surely expect that Acclaim will just sit back and settle with a basic port to Sony's console. No, that would be just wrong. Instead, they're optimizing both games graphics and sound, to make them as good as they can get.
Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future will debut for the PlayStation 2 at end of February, while Headhunter will be shipping this Spring. Both games carry a suggested retail price of $49.99.
