KOEI Cleans Up at the CESA Game Awards
Not one, but two “Excellence Awards.”

Quick, what’s the Computer Entertainment Software Association? BZZZZZZT, time’s up. It’s the Japanese counterpart to us Yanks’ Electronic Software Association. Aside from the two word difference in the name, there’s not too much the two groups don’t share in practice or philosophy, including recognizing talent and giving credit where it’s due.
KOEI is apparently due plenty, since they’ve managed to land the coveted “Excellence Award” for Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 4. Tack two more games onto that list, including – GASP – a Dynasty Warriors game! No! Surely not! Surprise of the century!
Specifically, it’s Dynasty Warriors 5 and Haruka 3 that nabbed the honors this year. If that last one has you scratching your head, stop; the dandruff is kinda grossing us out. Haruka 3 is strictly a Japanese-only anime-flavored adventure game, and targeted squarely at the double-x chromosome crowd more receptive of all that romantic mushy stuff, which makes the award even more of an accomplishment.
"The success of the Dynasty Warriors series is all thanks to the fans who have supported us, and I thank you," wept DW5 director Takashi Morinaka, tears of happiness flowing down his cheeks. "Dynasty Warriors 5 has continued the series' tradition of critical acclaim and strong sales, and was one of the top-selling PlayStation 2 games of the year."
We absolutely made up the whole crying part, but there was likely a lot of “thank yous” and American football-style “good work, buddy” ass-slapping going on. Not so likely? Fine, everyone was happy and they all went home and went to bed. We still think there were a couple of diminutive high-fiving sessions going on out of sight.
